Mr. Andrew “Andy” William Watry, age 66, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18th, 2017 at his home in Dahlonega, GA after a 7-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Andy was born in Madison, WI, but he grew up and spent muchof his adult life in and around Atlanta, GA. He lived in Raleigh, NC for 18 years and retired from the NC Department of Health and Human Services in 2016. Prior to that, he served as the Executive Director of both the Georgia and North Carolina State Medical Examining Boards. Andy was a loving husband and father who enjoyed boating, woodworking, fishing, coachingtwo generations of softball players, and spending time with his family.
Andy was preceded in death by his father William Joseph Watry and his mother Audrey Bert Watry. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Jenay Morris Watry of Dahlonega, GA; his childrenEmily Watry Baldwin (Will, Clara, Eloise, and Opal) of Dawsonville, GA and Ryan Andrew Watry (Jamie) of Mars Hill, NC; and his siblings Tom Watry (Anne McLemore) of Decatur GA, Susan Watry of Atlanta, GA, and Carl Watry (Lisa, Heather, and Jenna) of Alpharetta, GA.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017 in the sanctuary of Dahlonega United Methodist Church in Dahlonega, GA. The family will receive friends in the back narthex of the church starting at 4:00 pm until the hour of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the Humane Society of choice.
