Gean McDonald Foster

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 16, 2017

Mr. Gean McDonald Foster, age 91 of 7270 W. Currahee Street, Ayersville Community, Toccoa passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton.

A son of the late Ira Frank and Blonie Lee Forester Foster, he was born May 8, 1926 in Florida having lived most of his life in Rabun and Stephens Counties having moved to the Ayersville Community in 1951.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ten siblings. 

He attended Rabun-Gap Nacoochee School.  He was a Veteran of WWII, U.S. Army (Paratrooper), having entered the service in September, 1944 and came out of the service in July, 1946 as a Private First Class. He was deployed to Central Europe under the 17th Airborne Division, was in the Normandy Invasion, having flown a glider, in the Battle of the Bulge-Operation Varsity in December, 1944 and the Crossing of the Rhine River.  When the 17th came home, it was inactivated and became the 82nd Airborne Division of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  During his time in service he received the Combat Infantry Badge (30 Caliber Rifle), the Bronze Star, American Theater Service Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.  He was retired from LeTourneau/WABCO with 31 years of service.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years and Deacon of the church.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years of the home, Zephene Hollifield Foster; daughter and son-in-law, Imogene and Tom Speers of Rock Hill, South Carolina; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Nadean Foster of Martin and Jay and Jana Foster of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, David and Melissa Foster, Christina Foster, Keith Foster, Tracie and Todd McEntyre, Kevin Foster and Stephanie and Aaron Rentschler; great-grandchildren, Tiffany , Taylee, Ty and  Kevin McEntyre, Oliver and Isabella Foster, Asa and Jaya Rentschler; one brother, Lester Foster of Rabun Gap.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 20, 2017, 11 O’clock A.M. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with The Reverend Roy Bainey officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, David Foster, Keith Foster, Kevin Foster, Todd McEntyre, Jeff Foster and Terrell Dean.

The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.  Online condolences can be made at www.acree-davisfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to P230 Foundation (Nicaragua), P.O. Box 327, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 or to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 329, Palmetto, Georgia 30268 in memory of Mr. Gean McDonald Foster.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by the Georgia National Guard Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 4346 Honor Guard.  Acree-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Gean McDonald Foster.
