J.B. Freeman

J.B. Freeman, age 78 of Cornelia, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

Born in White County, Georgia on January 29, 1939, he was a son of the late Charlie and Nellie Mae Presley Freeman. Mr. Freeman was a graduate of  White County High School and the University of Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Freeman retired as a machinist with Peerless Winn Smith. He was an educator who taught horticulture, agriculture and small engine repair. Mr. Freeman was a very active and devoted member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church having served as Deacon for over 35 years as well as the Church Clerk and Brotherhood Director. He served many times as the vice president and president for the Habersham County Choir as he loved the old-fashioned shaped-note convention singing.  J.B. loved working outdoors, tree work, carpentry, gardening and farming.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerald B. Freeman; brothers, Jesse Freeman, Hubert Freeman and Truman Freeman; sisters, Maurine London, Jennie Loggins, Lucille Tomlin and Anna Lee Reese.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce Christopher Freeman of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Joel & Cindy Freeman of Demorest; daughter-in-law, Nicole Freeman of Cornelia; grandchildren, Zachary Freeman, Lillie Grace Freeman and Jaden Beth Freeman; brothers, Russell Freeman of Cleveland and Lawrence Freeman of Gainesville; sisters, Charlie Mae Glaze of Cleveland, Frances Barrett and Florine Shore both of Alto; numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of J.B.’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Lewis Fortner, Rev. Paul Flynn and Pastor Anthony Shore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
