Henry Gelb, age 63, of Cumming, Georgia, formerly of Rochester, New York and roots in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Hank was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Margaret Gelb; his brother, Rodney Gelb.
Survivors include Hank’s wife, Dolores (Wooten) Gelb; his daughter, Jessica (Gelb) Costner and her husband, David Costner; his son, Jeremy Gelb; his grandchildren, Holly and Jenna Costner; his brothers, Lawrence (Ellen) Gelb and Mark (Mary Beth) Gelb; his sister-in-law, Helen; his mother-in-law, Dolores Wooten; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Lynda Wooten; his close friends, Ginger Melcer, Bobby Melcer; his many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to serving in the United States Coast Guard, Hank steered several boats on the Erie Canal in upstate New York. Hank’s love for water, the ocean especially, awarded him the title, “Captain Hank.”
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13th, 2017, at 2:00pm at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. The family will welcome friends for visitation on the same day, from 1:00pm until the service. A memorial ceremony of inurnment will occur on Friday, May 12th, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Georgia National Cemetery.
