Lawton J. Dyer

Lawton J. Dyer, 83, of Gainesville, GA., passed away May 3, 2017 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Dyer was born August 14, 1933 to the late Clarence Dyer and Grace Dills Dyer.

He was retired from Bowman Transportation where he was a driver. Mr. Dyer was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Helen “Dodie” Dyer; sons, Melvin Dyer, Marvin Dyer; daughter, Lola Smallwood; brothers, Clyde Dyer, Grover Dyer, Willie J. Dyer and Johnny Dyer.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Loraine and Gene Anglin, Ann and Chris Carter, Wanda and Shane Ward; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Laura Dyer, Larry and Veida Dyer all of Gainesville; Jeff Dyer of Savannah; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Louise Ray and “J.O.” Puett of Gainesville; sister, Jody Hightower of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and John Hewell of Gainesville; very special friend Barbara Brown of Bowdon, GA; sister-in-law, Alice Dyer of Las Vegas and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, May 5, 2017 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Oliver Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
