John Carroll Smith

John Carroll Smith age 82 of Alto, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

Born in Richmond, Virginia on April 21, 1935, he was the son of the late John and Naomi Stephens Smith.  Mr. Smith served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.  He was the co-owner/ operator of J & J Frame and Trim. Mr. Smith enjoyed gardening, flowers, and carpentry. He used his special carpentry skills to restore the Burn-Sutton house in Clarkesville. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his sons, Larry Smith and Stephen Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, JoAnn Nichols Smith of Alto; sons, Daniel Smith of St. Marys and Gary Smith of Memphis, Tennessee; daughters, Melissa Schlegel of Cornelia and Donna Smith of Tallahasee, Florida; grandchildren, Justin Smith, Brittany Sosebee and Blake Sosebee; great grandchildren, Carter Smith and Jay Smith.

A private memorial service will be held a later date.
