Mr. William Watson Rumsey, age 85 of 99 Hannah Hill Drive, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Wilkinson Center in Toccoa.
A son of the late G.W. “Bud” and Eula Price Rumsey, he was born September 11, 1931 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life. He was a graduate of Stephens County High School and attended Piedmont College. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War. He was a retired chemist with Coats and Clark and also owned and operated Watson Rumsey Construction Company. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God where he served as a Deacon and chairman of the Board of Deacons, Adult Sunday School Teacher and he also served as a former Minister of Music. He and his wife Katherine organized the bus ministry for the church. He was the builder for the present Glad Tidings Church Sanctuary. During his early life, he traveled with his brother, Reverend Ray Rumsey, Evangelist, and provided music for his evangelistic services as well as serving as a musician in live Christian radio broadcasts.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Katherine Farmer Rumsey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vanessa and John Corning of Toccoa and Tina and Ray Hewitt of Irmo, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Erin Oxley, Anna and Aaron Krumenacker, Karmen Hewitt, Katelyn Hewitt, Isaac Hewitt and Isabella Hewitt; sister, Mary Frances Howard of Toccoa; sister-in-law, Helen Westmoreland; brother-in-law, Jerry Farmer and wife Gay and brother-in-law, Lenox Farmer and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6, 2017, 2 O’clock P.M. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God with the Reverend Josh Garner, the Reverend Randy Valimont, the Reverend Mark Anthony and the Reverend Ray Hewitt officiating.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Tony Howard, Greg Howard, Lenox Farmer, Wayne Phillips, Joe Collins, Sam Algieri, John Buchanan and Bill Roberts. Honorary Escort will be Al and Evie Zanoni, James and Betty Fuller, James and Nelar McGee, Bob and Irene Coronato and Harry and Terry Biering.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and on Saturday from noon until time to leave for the service.
Entombment will follow in Stephens Memorial Mausoleum with the Reverend Josh Garner officiating. Military Honors will be by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Acree-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. William Watson Rumsey.
