Mr. Jerry Evans, age 76, of Gainesville went to be with our Lord and Savior, Saturday, April 29, 2017, following an extended illness.
Jerry was born and raised in Forsyth County, and lived in Gainesville his entire adult life. He spent his career as a dedicated and honorable Police Officer, rising to the rank of Sergeant with the Gainesville Police Department, then transferring to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department, where he ultimately retired. He was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and a member of several organizations for Peace Officers. Jerry was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kay and Onie Lou Evans of Cumming and sons Richard “Rickey” Evans and Michael Wayne Evans.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lynn Parker Evans; daughters, Dianne Evans-Anderson of Winder, Amanda Trammell Evans of Athens; step-daughter, Jennifer Ash-Cook of Lawrenceville, step-son, Jesse Ash of Newport News, Virginia, nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Walls of Dawsonville, and sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Rev. Pete Martin of Cumming.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jerry is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Memorial Park Drive in Gainesville. The Rev. Pete Martin will officiate, accompanied by prayer from Dr. Jerry Gill. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park prior to the service from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
