Bertha McAllister Elrod

Mrs. Bertha McAllister Elrod, age 90 of 132 Meeks Street, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Clarkesville, Georgia.

A daughter of the late Frank and Mae Westmoreland McAllister, she was born September 26, 1926 in Oconee County, South Carolina having lived most of her life in Stephens County.  She was retired from Coats and Clark with 40 years of service.  She was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church.  She taught swimming at Toccoa Doyle Street Pool and Coats and Clark Pool for a number of years.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Elrod in 2013.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Al Westmoreland of Clarkesville, Georgia; three grandchildren, Margret Wynn Westmoreland, Joseph Al Westmoreland and John Z. Westmoreland; sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Chess Steele of Stone Mountain, Georgia; brother-in-law, Charlie Elrod and his wife Dora of Toccoa; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 7, 2017, 2 O’clock P.M. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerrell Beatty and the Reverend Brenda Westmoreland officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Phillip Hayes, Mark Hayes, Bobby McAllister, Tommy McAllister, Steve Steele and Joe Westmoreland.

Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Bertha McAllister Elrod.
