Dr. James Ransom

Dr. James Ransom, age 91, of New Holland passed away on Friday April 28, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness.

          Funeral Services will be held on Monday May 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Reverends Steve Merck, Philip Ransom, Johnny Knight and Pastor Levi Nix officiating. Dr. Ransom will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday April 29, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on November 28, 1925 in Gainesville, GA, Dr. Ransom was the son of the late Jim Ransom and Ines Sullins Ransom. Dr. Ransom received his Doctor of Divinity and retired from Hall County Correctional Institute as counselor and chaplain. Dr. Ransom was pastor of Temple Baptist Church for 42 years.  He was a veteran of the Navy.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Ransom is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christian Faith Guthrie, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Dr. Ransom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wynelle Cooper Ransom of New Holland; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Ransom Knight (Rev. Johnny) of Commerce; Elaine Ransom Guthrie (Rev. Mark) of Flowery Branch, Teresa Ransom Merck (Rev. Steve) of Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Ransom (Bobbie) of Gainesville, Rev. Philip Ransom (Karen) of Gainesville; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Gillespie of Gainesville, Betty Brewer of Lula, Becky Roberts of Commerce, sister-in-law, Mozelle Glover of Gainesville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Buck and Wilda Cooper of Lawrenceville; special friends, Joan Black, Mickie Massey and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Temple Baptist Church.
