Harold Vandigriff Law, affectionately known as “Hunky”, passed away in his home on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017, after declining health in the past year.
He was born to Helen Johnson Law and George Hammond Law, Sr. on March 10, 1940 in Gainesville, GA. He married the love of his life, Sandra Johnson Law (of Macon) on September 8, 1962, and they were married for 38 years. They raised three children, Jennifer, Griff, and Ferrell.
Harold acquired a lifelong hobby of radio, acquiring his amateur radio license at the age of 12. While he attended high school, he worked as a disc jockey at the local radio station in the evenings.
He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1958, and then from Auburn University in 1962 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. While at Auburn, he was president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and a cadet in the ROTC program. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force and was a 2nd Lieutenant overseeing the construction of Minuteman missile silos. Following honorable discharge from the Air Force, he and his brother, George, operated Law Construction Company, and then Law Motor Company for many years. He later worked as Fleet Sales Manager at Milton Martin Toyota, then was Regional Sales Manager at Black Book until his retirement in 2006.
He obtained his Eagle Scout ranking, was a past president of Chattahoochee Country Club, past president of Georgia Automobile Dealers Association (GADA), as well as a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Law Erickson, his wife, Sandra Johnson Law, wife Jody Bacon Law, brother George Hammond Law, Jr., his parents, and four younger siblings, Barbara, Helen, Charles, and Linda.
Mr. Law is survived by his two sons, Harold Vandigriff Law, Jr. ”Griff” (Nikki), Ferrell Hammond Law, two grandchildren, Harold Vandigriff Law,III “Van” and Amelia Margaret Law “Emmy”, and his special friend, Dora Jenkins, all of Gainesville. He is also survived by nieces & nephews: Elizabeth Law Hein, G.Hammond Law, III, Helen Law Perry, Dr. J. Fletcher Law, all of Gainesville, and Susan Law Tarleton of Winston-Salem, N.C.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service.
