Arthur James “Art” Lueptow

Obituary Date: Friday, April 14, 2017

Mr. Arthur James “Art” Lueptow, age 92, of Oakwood passed away on Friday April 14, 2017.

Mr. Lueptow was born on July 6, 1924 in Milwaukee, WI to the late Arthur Lueptow, Sr. and Julia (Hess) Lueptow. Art was a proud veteran of World War II, a technician fifth grade in the 104th Infantry Division known as the Timberwolves. His unit landed in Cherbourg, France, in September 1944, and these night fighters participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Art earned the Bronze Star Medal in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations and returned home in July 1945. He celebrated his 21st birthday onboard the ship carrying the troops home to the USA.

Art earned his master’s degree in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a natural salesman and loved telling a good story to make others laugh. His job resulted in many corporate transfers so that each of his four children were born in separate states. Among his favorite past times were golf, fishing and working on handyman projects around the family cottage on Lake Lanier.

On February 7, 1948, he married the love of his life, Doty, his Ripon College sweetheart. Their loving marriage, their sense of hard work, their unabashed patriotism, honesty and respect made them role models to many who knew them.

Art was preceded in death by his wife Doty, his brother Don Lueptow and his sister Carol (Lueptow) Polfuss.

He is survived by his children: Linda Stiehr (Jon) of Braselton, Julie Stegall (Richard) of Oakwood, Christy Taylor of Alpharetta, and Michael Lueptow of Chamblee, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mel Cherizier was a loyal caregiver for the last three years of his life and the family appreciated her loving spirit and dedication to him.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be a private family ceremony with Military Honors.
