Leroy Harper, 86, of Dawsonville passed away Monday April 17, 2017 following a period of declining health.
He loved working on old cars and was a Little League baseball coach and key supporter when Dawson County first began to develop its Park and Rec Department. An Air Force veteran, he was also a member of the Etowah Masonic Lodge #222 F&AM. He had worked at Lockheed in Marietta and Dawsonville, Tennessee Valley Authority, Pelfrey Harper Contractors, as a building inspector for Dawson County, and most recently, Etowah Water. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Willie Harper of Mineral Bluff, Ga; his sisters, Geneva Henson and Regina Pelfrey of Dawsonville; and brothers, Cecil Harper and Micky Harper of Mineral Bluff.
Surviving are his wife of almost 63 years, Dude Harper; children, Ann Sheffield, Sherry Allen, Rudy Harper, and Greg Harper, all of Dawsonville; and one brother, Gary Harper of Morganton, GA. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives also survive.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday April 27, 2017 from 4PM until 8PM at Bearden Funeral Home.
