Sylvia C. Mayfield, 93, passed away at home early Friday morning, April 14, 2017. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at First Baptist Church Chapel of Gainesville. Dr. William Coates will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 p. m.
Ms. Mayfield was born on December 7, 1923 in Clermont, GA to Jess G. and Annie Little Cain. She worked for years as a bookkeeper for Walton-Jackson Co. then for Jackson-Flowerland Florist. In the early 1970s she received her real estate license and worked until her retirement at age 67 as an agent and a broker in Gainesville. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir and was active in the Gleaners Sunday School class.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Euel Cain; her husband of 51 years, Leon “Blondy” Mayfield; and her son-in-law, Tom Fisk.
Survivors include her daughters, Maria Fisk and Marsha Kinsey; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Andy Piucci, all of Gainesville; granddaughters, Jennifer Caldwell, Jacksonville, FL, Anna Katherine Fisk and Mary Beth Kinsey, Gainesville; grandson, Austin Kinsey, Gainesville; great-grandson, Mason Sito, Jacksonville, FL; great-granddaughter, Easton Archdeacon, Gainesville; sister, Lois Hope, Gainesville; nephews and wives, Alan and Vicki Hope, Gainesville and Joseph and Barbara Glover, Indialantic, FL; nieces and husbands, Angela and Rick Mitchell, Atlanta and Beth and Coddy Williams, Melbourne Beach, FL; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
