Rev. Truman Collier Skaggs

Obituary Date: Sunday, April 9, 2017

Mission Accomplished! Rev. Truman Collier Skaggs age 89 of Gainesville went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2017, after an extended illness. He was born in Russellville, Kentucky, on March 4, 1928. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior when he was 8 years old. He served as a southern Baptist minister and pastor for more than fifty years. Rev. Skaggs became pastor of Central Baptist Church, Main Street, Gainesville, GA in 1978, and served the church until his retirement in April 1993. Rev. Skaggs was a member of Central Baptist Church.

During his ministry, Rev. Skaggs served as pastor of the following churches: Melissa Church, Texas, Malakoff Baptist Church, Texas; Lodi Baptist Church, California; Rio Vista Baptist Church, California; Pasadina Baptist Church, California; Central Baptist Church, Phoenix, Arizona; Antioch Baptist, Carrollton, GA; and Central Baptist Church, Gainesville, GA, for fourteen years.

Rev. Skaggs was preceded in death by his dear wife, Dorothy Dean Skaggs, his father, The Rev. S.T. Skaggs, mother, Verna Skaggs; step-mother, Mary Lou Skaggs; step-brother, Charles Skaggs; two sons, Tommy, infant, and Sammy Dean Skaggs.

He is survived by son, Jody Don Skaggs, Gainesville, two grandchildren, Blake Collier Skaggs and family, Carrolton, GA, and Samantha Skaggs, Chicago, Illinois.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday April 14, 2017 at Ward’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Earl Pirkle will officiate. Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
