Robert Charles Gilstrap, age 85, of Powder Springs, GA, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 9, 2017. Robert was born in Atlanta, GA, in 1931, to the late Bill and Annie Mae Gilstrap. He went to O'Keefe High School, and was the first baseman on the city championship team. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Robert worked for the Sheet Metal Union and received an award from them for serving 50 years as a sheet metal worker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elise Gilstrap; and sister, Dorothy Mason.
Robert is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Patricia (Lee) McConnell of TN, and Brenda Hickey of McDonough, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Ron (Pat) Gilstrap of Powder Springs, GA; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; along with many other loving friends and family.
Funeral services for Mr. Gilstrap will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
