Georgie Ruth Shelnut

Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mrs. Georgie Ruth Shelnut, age 87 of Cleveland. Ruth passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017. A celebration of life for is scheduled for 3:00pm, Saturday, April 8, 2017 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dave Fortner and Rev. Chris Shelnut officiating with private interment to follow.
Ruth was born in White County on March 3, 1930 to the late Herschel Adams and Zena Mae Hunt Adams. She will be remembered as a strong and faithful woman who loved her God and enjoyed the life she had with her family. With a gentle smile, Ruth would encourage those around her by being an example of Godliness. As her physical health began to decline, Ruth maintained her grace, but looked forward to being reunited with her late husband, Frank, her parents, her daughter in law Lillian Shelnut, her grandson, Clint Crawford and her great grandson, Abel Shelnut, all of whom precede her in death. Ruth was a longtime member of Mt. View Baptist Church and was employed for several years with Cleveland Sportswear. Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Shelnut, Cleveland, Chris Shelnut ( Michelle), Cleveland, Richard Shelnut ( Shirley) also of Cleveland; daughters, Frances Thomas (Richard) of Cleveland and Anita Garey ( Bruce) of Cleveland; sisters, Willie Truelove and Hazel Allison both of Cleveland and brother, T.J. Adams ( Jean) of Hartwell. Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren, Paulette Gray, Kayla Allison ( Michael), Cody Shelnut, Keith Shelnut ( Celeste), Kevin Shelnut (Pam), Johnny Thomas ( Chere), Phillip Garey (Carrie), Zach Shelnut and Isaac Shelnut, her great grandchildren,Jordan, Avery, MacKenna, Tyler, Jared, Taylor, Taylor, Tyler, Paige, Hope, Faith and Jace. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to the white County Library, Helen Branch, P.O.Box 1088, Helen, GA 30545. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 1:00pm.
