Stephen David Lurie, age 70, of Gainesville, GA, passed away in his home April 1, 2017.
A graveside service will be held at Hillside Gardens Cemetery, in Gainesville, Georgia, at 3:30 on Tuesday, April 4.
Mr. Lurie was born in Atlanta, Georgia but was raised in Florala, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his father, Herman A. Lurie and his mother, Helen R. Bunkin; his sister, Marsha Sachs; grandparents and great grandparents.
Mr. Lurie is survived by his wife, Eleanor Lurie; his sons, Jeff Lurie and wife Kim; Brad Lurie and wife Kara; and his step daughter Jennifer Chastain and husband Rodney. In addition, Steve had 6 beautiful grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by cousins and many great friends.
Steve was a high school football referee for many years which he loved. He served in the U.S. Army and also was a Mason.
Steve was an avid Duplicate Bridge player and attained the rank of Ruby Life Master. He was a long time member of the Lanierland Duplicate Bridge Club and served both as a Board Member and President.
After Steve’s retirement from Norfolk Southern Railroad as an engineer for 36 years, he and his wife traveled the world.
