Walter Joseph Harris, 73, of Lula, GA passed away unexpectedly on April 1 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Walter was the son of Walter Herbert Harris and Myrtle Potts Harris Tanner Bunge. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Sandra Barrett Harris; daughter Teri Harris (Bill) Rudisill, son Walter John (Sonya) Harris, stepdaughter Melanie (Jerry) Walker, and stepson Michael (Emily) Moncrief. He was the Proud grandfather to Ansley, Evan & Holly Rudisill; Joseph & Zachary Walker; Jamie, Ian, Alyssa & Seth Harris; and Josh, Ozzy & Ava Moncrief. He is also survived by brother Sam (Mary) Harris, sister, Joy Harris, and nephew Sammy Harris.
Walter grew up in Atlanta, attending Druid Hills High School and Georgia State University. He worked in retail all his life, most recently at Lowe's in Cornelia, GA. In his earlier years, he worked in the family owned businesses, Harris Hardware and magic stores in Underground Atlanta and North DeKalb Mall. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Lula. He never met a stranger and was beloved by all who knew him. Walter had a quick wit and a strong Christian faith. He also loved children, animals and all kinds of electronics/gadgetry.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Lula, GA, 5767 Maiden Lane, Lula, GA 30554, on Saturday, April 8 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Challenged Child & Friends of Gainesville, GA or First Baptist Church Lula in Walter's memory.
