Idus L. Herrin

Obituary Date: Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Idus Leonard Herrin, age 75 of Cornelia, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at his residence on the Herrin Family Farm.

Born in Habersham County on June 20, 1941, he was a son of the late Leonard Lawson and Mary Parthenia Smith Herrin. Mr. Herrin retired from Fieldale with 37 years as a supervisor and was of the Baptist faith. Papa Idus loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also an active farmer who enjoyed tending to his farm and socializing with his customers at the family owned laundry mat.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Herrin and Gene Herrin; sister, Sally Barrett. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff & Kathy Herrin of Cornelia; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim & Keith Canup of Mt. Airy and Connie & Danny Thomas of Clarkesville; grandchildren and spouses, Chase & Brittany Thomas of Clarkesville, Kaitlyn & Reed Suggs of Clarkesville, Cody & Kimberly Thomas of Mt. Airy, Josh & Jessica Herrin of Cornelia, Jade & Joshua Bramlett of Cornelia; grandchild, Kerra Canup of TX; great grandchildren, John Herrin, Kate & Hank Bramlett; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Brian James officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Lamar Purcell and Rev. Phillip Yarber officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
