Emma Lou McConnell, age 95, of Cumming, GA, passed away on March 24, 2017. Emma Lou was born in 1922, to the late Enoch and Alice Nix. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Emma Lou and her husband owned and operated McConnell Grocery for 27 years. She was one of the founding members of the Ducktown Community Club, and an organizing member for the fund raising of the Ducktown Fire Station. Mrs. McConnell was also a proud member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James McConnell, Sr.; brother, Franklin Nix; and son-in-law, Larry Smallwood, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jannie (Bill) Barrett of Cumming, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy (Martha) McConnell of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Larry (Melody) Smallwood, Jr. of Cumming, GA, Sheri (Patrick) Gilligan of Cumming, GA, Michael (Nancy) Smallwood of Cumming, GA, John Barrett of Canton, GA, Vince (Nikki) Pendley of Cumming, GA, Vess (Jamie) Pendley of Suwanee, GA, James (Margaret) Pendley of Cumming, GA, Vaun Pendley of Suwanee, GA, Tisha (Michael) Long of Gainesville, GA, Brittany (Jonah) Bryant of Gainesville, GA, Brandon (Khira) McConnell of Spartanburg, SC, and Josh McConnell of Cumming, GA; 27 great grandchildren; sister, Clara Mae Stancil of Cumming, GA; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. McConnell will be held Sunday, March 26, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Orr, Rev. Danny Orr and Rev. Donnie Nix officiating. Interment will follow at New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that all donations be made to New Harmony Baptist Church in Cumming, GA.
