Larry Ray, age 77 of Gainesville, passed away on March 20, 2017 after a long battle with his health. Larry was born on October 30, 1939 in Tifton, Georgia to the late Dempsey Ray and the late Nora Lynch Ray. Larry served in the United States Navy. He spent time on the U.S.S. Wedderburn in the Pacific Fleet and earned the Good Conduct Medal. After his naval service, Larry went to work in the propane industry and later retired from Amerigas as the District Manager. He was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Tommie Satterfield Ray, his parents, and his brother Melvin Ray. He is survived by his daughter Dee Ray, son Jim (Janice) Ray, and son Mike (Lisa) Ray; a granddaughter that he loved and raised as his own daughter Bri Dickson; brother Royce Ray, Earl Ray, Tommy Ray and Carl Ray; grandchildren Kimberley Ray Taylor, Matthew Hitt, Emily Cyree, Jamie Brooks, Cody Ray, Haley Totherow and Helen Ray; 6 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at 3:30 pm at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.
