Susie Zeches

Susie Zeches, wife to her beloved husband, Jon, mom to her treasured boys, Clayton and Jonathan, and caring nurse of many, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 18, 2017.

Susie was born in Charlotte, NC on February 3, 1964.  She was raised in Viet Nam, where her parents, Charlie and E.G. Long were missionaries, and in Raleigh, NC.  She attended Toccoa Falls College and later Wake Tech (Raleigh) where she earned degrees in Bible and Theology and nursing.  Susie met Jon and they were married on May 4, 1996 in Raleigh, NC.  They made Toccoa their home, raising their sons, surrounded by a loving community of friends.

Susie’s greatest joy was her family and nieces and nephews.  She took immense pleasure in the beauty of the ocean, the warmth of the sun, and the happiness of her boys playing with their cousins in the waves and the sand.  Susie never arrived at a gathering empty handed.  She expressed her love with thoughtful gifts.  Among her strengths was her commitment to truth and service.  She proved to be an excellent nurse.  As one Doctor said, “Often imitated, but never duplicated.”  Her encouragement to a niece before her death was, “You can have courage and still weep.”  Until we meet again at the throne of Our Risen Lord.  We love you. Susie was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Long. 

She is survived by her husband, Jon Zeches of Toccoa, GA; sons, Clayton and Jonathan of Toccoa, GA; mother E.G. Long of Raleigh, NC; brother Nathan (Peggy) Long of Wilmington, NC; brother Eddie (Kathy) Long of Raleigh, NC; sister Joby (Mark) Mitchell of Purcellville, VA; in-laws Clarence and Winnie Zeches of Toccoa, GA; brother-in-law Jim and (Onagh) Zeches of Roswell, GA and 14 nieces and nephews:  Stephen, Jordan and Kristen Long, Lacey and Bethany Long, Anna (Nick) Droll, Seth, Noah, Scott, and Tana Mitchell, Luke, Noah and Isabel Zeches.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 22, 2017. 11 O’clock A.M. at the First Baptist Church with The Reverend David Ritcey and The Reverend Brett Sanders officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Nathan Long, Eddie Long, Stephen Long, Jordan Long, Mark Mitchell and Seth Mitchell.

Memorial gifts may be given to Toccoa Falls College School of Nursing, 107 Kincaid Drive, MSC 994, Toccoa Falls, GA 30598.  Earmark in memorial to Susie Zeches. 

Interment will follow at Roselane Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Susie Zeches.
