Mr. Lonar Hobart “Jack” Durden, Jr., age 99 of 795 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his residence.
A son of the late Lonar Hobart Durden, Sr. and Carrie McCloud Durden, he was born June 3, 1917 in Adrian, Georgia having lived most of his life in Toccoa. He was retired from Southern Railway with 40 years of service. He was a graduate of Rabun Gap Nacoochee College and attended Tugalo Baptist Church. He was always a hard worker and provider, was generous and kind in many ways, loved by many and will certainly be missed by all. He was twice married. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Durden, by a son, Ralph Durden and by two daughters, Anne Durden and Susan Durden.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Betty Jean Pressley Durden; son, Bart Durden of Stockbridge, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Terry Durden, Edie Roche, Anna Heiers, Jason Durden, Adriane Alexander, Cary Durden and George Graham; sixteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; step-children, Harris Pressley, Marie Cole, Sarah LeCroy, Christy Hilley and Brian Pressley.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Villa Rica.
