Mildred Alston Horton passed away Saturday February 25, 2017 at home among loving family and friends, attended by Hospice of N.E. Ga. Medical Center.
Mildred was born in 1932 in Griffin, Georgia to Algernon Douglas Alston and Carolyn Peters Alston. She graduated from Herndon High School in Herndon, Va. and Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta.
Mildred married Jack Horton in 1957 and raised a family of four children in Decatur, Georgia. The family moved to Forsyth County in 1977 and Mildred served as a registered nurse at Lanier Park Hospital. After retirement she volunteered at Chattahoochee Baptist Association and Gainesville Care Center. Throughout her life Mildred loved nursing, Quilting and was a rock hound and an accomplished artist.
Mildred came to know her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 1963 and at her death was a dedicated member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Gainesville, Ga.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by husband – James Jackson Horton, Gainesville, Children and spouses, James Douglas Horton and Mary, Gainesville, Matthew Edward Horton and Donna, Dacula, Ga., Wade Alston Horton and Debbie, Dandridge, Tn., Olivia Anne Velazquez and Romero, Gainesville. Grandchildren; Ryan Horton, Miami, Rachel Malautea and Chris, Chicago, Tarik Horton, Norcross, Karima Horton, Karci Horton, Ana Velazquez, Alicia Torres and Federico, Richard Velazquez all of Gainesville, Rebekah Horton, James Horton, Gabriella Saams, Stephen Saams of Dandridge, Tn., Sister and Brother in law Saralyn and George Jaleel, Duluth, Ga.
Visitation with family and friends will be at Little Davenport Funeral Home Sunday February 26 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
