Mrs. Jimmie Christine Gassaway Davis, 93 wife of T. Richard Davis, passed away peacefully at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on Friday, February 24, 2017.

Jimmie was born in Columbus, Georgia on November 10, 1923 and grew up on her grandfather’s farm in a small town outside of Covington, Georgia known as Dixie.  While attending Mansfield High School, she was a member of the Beta Club, basketball team, and was a senior superlative as well as an honor graduate.  She later attended Draughon Business College in Atlanta.  After graduation from Draughon she was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company and later as a receptionist for Southeastern Underwriters.  During World War II she was employed at Bell Aircraft in the drafting department but also had the unique privilege of being chosen to host celebrities such as Bob Hope, Jerry Colonna, Dixie Leigh Powell and others as part of the USO troops touring various military facilities.  When World War II ended she was assigned to assist Army Finance Records and Army Air Force Retirement records as a special correspondent to Washington, D.C.

While her husband attended Southern Theological seminary in Louisville, KY, she was employed as a receptionist by Reynolds Metal Company.  As a ministers wife she enjoyed teaching bible studies to all ages and was actively involved in Baptist Women’s Missions.  Jimmie loved the beauty of nature in God’s wonderful creation. Moreover, she traveled extensively throughout the entire world and loved to experience the culture of other countries particularly in the Holy Land. Among these countries were Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Greece, and Petra. An ardent and obedient follower of Jesus Christ, she has been a member of her beloved First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Georgia for the last 37 years. The family would like to express nothing but praise, adoration, and love for Dr. Sean Sumner, her physician.

Jimmie was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Gassaway and is survived by her husband Dr. Thomas Richard Davis and their three children Thomas R. Davis, Jr. (Elena Davis), Kathy J. Smith (Benny R. Smith), Kandy D. Kuglin (Dave Kuglin) as well as her grandson Ronald E. Kelley, III (Mallory J. Kelley) and her two great grandsons Hudson Davis Kelley and Coleman Allen Kelley.  Jimmie and T. Richard were married 68 years.
