Mr. Richard J. King, 86 of Gainesville (Forsyth Co.) died Saturday February 18, 2017 at the Northside Forsyth Hospital. Richard was born in Detroit, MI. July 13, 1930 to the late Alexander and Jennie King.
Richard was an active man with a gentle personality and a hopeful outlook. He believed in the good in people and loved retirement as much as his youth. At the age of about 4, having burned his hand badly on a pot belly stove, Richard began playing piano as therapy and loved it so, that he continued playing for over 80 years. Joining the Navy at a very young age gave him a chance to see the world and travel. He came home to go on to college and get his degree in music, and he has been bringing his ‘Satin Sounds’ to music lovers ever since.
Richard was a member of the Elks organization and his church's men's’ prayer group. He was an avid boatman and was always happiest near water. He always strived to be mentally and spiritually motivated and the best version of himself.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister and leaves behind his wife, and his children and grandchildren. Richard was the beloved husband to Gloria King; father to Karen Lee King, Liana King, Holly King, Pam Lake, and Nancy Shaw; grandfather to Alex, Cory, Braxton, Jennie, Chris, and Weston; and stepfather to Deborah, Karen Ann, and Terri. He was a brother to Arlene.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Little & Davenport Chapel. The Rev. Richard Muller will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the funeral.
