Rev. Almon Jefferson Yearwood, age 89 of 52 Yearwood Street, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his residence.
A son of the late David Paul and Elizabeth Rider Yearwood, he was born October 26, 1927 in Stephens County, Georgia having lived in Chicago for 35 years and the rest of his life in Stephens County. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II. He was the Founder of 1st Independent Church School Missions in Chicago and Georgia. He was the founding Pastor of Community Church in Toccoa where he served for 39 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Letha Yearwood and by a son, Thomas Michael Yearwood.
Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Cora Lee Norton Yearwood of the home: two daughters, Sandra Traudt and Sabrina Warren both of Toccoa; five sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Inga Yearwood, Greg and Kelly Yearwood and Jeffery Yearwood all of Chicago, Robert Yearwood and Oscar and Lori Yearwood both of Toccoa; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorena Miller of Toccoa and Winnie Wilson of Atlanta.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 16, 2017, 1 O’clock P.M. at Community Church in Toccoa with family members officiating. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Curt Yearwood, Greg Yearwood, Jeffery Yearwood, Oscar Yearwood, Peter Traudt and Caleb Shirley.
The family w ill receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and at Community Church on Thursday from noon until the service time at 1 P.M.
Interment will follow in Community Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Rev. Almon Jefferson Yearwood.
