Katie Mae McLain Medlin, age 86, of Dahlonega, died after suffering a stroke last Monday at North Georgia Assisted Living in Dawsonville.
Katie was born in Kildav, Harlan County, Kentucky on June 24, 1930 to the late Willie Oliver and Alma Ellen McLain. She was preceded in death by brothers Jackie, Russell, Dennis, Garfield, Harold, Leonard and Bobby McLain and a sister Mildred McLain.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws Linda and Don Munn, Woodstock, Ga., Denise and Mike Case, Dahlonega, Ga., son and daughter-in-law Mark and Cheryl Medlin, Fayetteville , Ga., grandchildren Donita and Marc Walker, Nathan and Stephanie Munn, Eric and Michele Swanson, Amanda and Will Hodge, Phillip and Amanda Medlin, Rebekah and Matt Armstrong, Emily and Jordan Horne, Olivia and Clark Medlin; great-grand children Alexis and Ansley Walker, Mason, Carter and Mckenzie Munn, Savannah and Brenden Swanson, Madison Hofner, Jack, Aiden and Kate Medlin, Jonah, Nora and Ava Armstrong. A sister Dorothy Tomlinson and brother Norman McLain.
Katie left home at age 14 and finished high school at BTS in Sevierville,TN. Then attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN. where she met my father who came to Lee on the GI bill and as they say "The rest is history". We have had three generations to attended what is now Lee University because of my parents. Mother then became a pastor's wife and they ministered for 35 years in Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Georgia. She was a Sunday school teacher, ladies ministry leader, helped in making everything from fried pies to dinners, soloist in church, going to nursing homes as a family and singing. Worked hard to make all the parsonages our home and then making Linda and my clothes as a INCREDIBLE seamstress. Later in life she made everything from curtains, costumes, church robes, to baby items for all of us. She has been a historian and story teller for her 11 siblings. But most of all our heritage of a Christian Mother who taught us to love the Lord is the most cherished.
Services to be held 11a, February 9, 2017, at Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating ministers are Bishop Mark and Phillip Medlin
