Mrs. Alice McKay Gathany, age 92 of 1573 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at her residence.
A daughter of the late Julius Benson McKay and Mildred Mayfield McKay, she was born January 17, 1925 in Culman County, Alabama having lived most of her life in Toccoa. She served in the Mission Fields in Africa for 10 years and later retired from Stephens Federal Bank serving as Association Secretary. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member and treasurer of the Stephens County Mental Retardation Service.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Neil Ogg of Seneca, South Carolina and Jane and Bobby Blackwell of Toccoa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan and Jeannie Gathany of Toccoa and James and Nancy Gathany of Decatur; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 8, 2017, 2 O’clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. John Brown officiating. Family members will serve as pallbearers, Joel Blackwell, Jonathan Gathany, Samuel Ogg, Joseph Ogg, Benson Gathany and Neil Ogg.
The family will be at the home on E. Tugalo and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday form 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Online condolences can be made at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Alice McKay Gathany.
