Diedrich B. Timm

Obituary Date: Friday, January 27, 2017

Goodbye, Uncle Dick.

Mr. Diedrich B. Timm, 92, of Gainesville passed away on Friday, January 27,
2017 following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January
31, 2017 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Pastor Aaron Bennett
will officiate. Interment will follow in Oconee Hills Cemetery, Athens, GA.
at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday,
January 30, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on June 26, 1924, in Athens, GA., he was the son of the late
Dr. Albert Harry and Almetto Read Timm. Mr. Timm served in the Merchant
Marines
for 47 years and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Raised in Athens, Dick Timm, better known as
“Uncle Dick” was an avid Bulldog Fan.  As an adult, he made his home on a
little spot on Lake Lanier that he dubbed Timmville.  He was best known for
his ability to teach youngsters to waterski.  Those he taught will
remember his instructions. “Keep your knees inside your elbows and your
arms straight out.  If you pull in on your elbows, you are going to fall
back on your keister…every time.”  Upon his retirement, he became an active
great-uncle to the next generation.  He will be remembered by many in South
Hall County as he attended countless sporting events that the “greats”
participated in, usually sporting a cap or t-shirt with the logo of the
team they were playing for.  He also attended every recital, play,
graduation, and wedding involving his family.  He was kindhearted and loved
by everyone who knew him.  He served his Lord, his country, and his family.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, and respect.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Timm is preceded in death by his brother,
Dr. Harry Timm, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Hosegood and Catharine Brown.

Mr. Timm is survived by his sister and brother in law, Betty and
Howard Mobley of Gainesville; nieces and nephews, Gary and Bill Preston,
Cathy Green and the late Randy Green, Harriet and David Anderson, Dr.
Steve and Willette Bennett, Dr. Al and Kelly Bennett; great nieces and
nephews, Courtney Preston, Brandon and Melody Preston, Aaron and
Andrea Bennett, Austin and Libby Bennett, Trey and Katherine Bennett,
Ian and Nora Bennett, Elizabeth Bennett, Chase Bennett, Anna Bennett, Rebekah Bennett,
Garrison Bennett, Alex Bennett, Brady Bennett, Brice Bennett; 6 great-great nieces and
nephews and other relatives and friends.
