Kathleen Billie Wimpy

Mrs. Kathleen Billie Wimpy passed away at her residence on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 just one day shy of her ninety-sixth birthday. Born in Gainesville, Georgia on January 26, 1921 to parents William and Marvelle Fry Dobbs, she had lived most of her life in Lumpkin County. She was a 1937 graduate of Camilla High School and a 1940 graduate of North Georgia College where she graduated with honors and was a North Georgia College Alumni Association member.  She was married to A.G. Wimpy and together, they operated the A.G. Wimpy Company, Inc. where she served as bookkeeper. They also donated the land for the current Lumpkin County- Wimpy’s  Airport. Mrs. Wimpy  had been a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church since June 4, 1950. During her membership, she was active with WMU, Sunbeams, Vacation Bible School and her TEL Sunday School Class where she served as treasurer. Also, for 25 years, she donated her time serving as church treasurer. She and A.G. provided the custom built pipe organ for the old Dahlonega Baptist Church building. Mrs. Wimpy also served on the search committee to find the last two church pastors.

Mrs. Wimpy was civically involved as well as a member of the Dahlonega Woman’s Club and the Dahlonega Club where she served as treasurer. The Dahlonega Jaycees selected A.G. and Billie as Gold Rush King and Queen in 1981 and she always took her duties seriously. She had attended every Gold Rush Days event since that time until this past one. She also spent a lot of time at school sporting events supporting her family, so much so that in 1992 then Lumpkin County High School principal, Ralph McCrary presented her with a Lifetime Pass to All Lumpkin County Athletic Events. She is the only known recipient of such an award.

In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, A.G. Wimpy, son and daughter-in-law; Archie and Margaret Wimpy, son I-in-law; Bob Lee, grandchildren; Traci Elizabeth Lee and Zeb Wimpy, sisters; Marion Edge and Vallie Dobbs. She is survived by sons and daughters –in-law; Al and Ann Wimpy, Dahlonega, Charles and Elaine Wimpy, Dahlonega, William and Tracy Wimpy, Dahlonega, daughters and sons-in-law; Jackie Lee, Dahlonega, Patricia and Edral Adams, Dahlonega, Nancy and Bill Howle, Evans, GA, Debbie and Trent Thomas, Asheville, NC,  her brother, Dr. William H. Dobbs, Jr. of Washington, D.C. ;grandchildren and spouses; Wex Wimpy, Port Richey, FL, Kathie Carey, Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jon and Jamie Wimpy, Terra Ceia, FL, David and Patti Wimpy, Dahlonega, Doug Wimpy, Cleveland, GA, Chad and Nicole Wimpy, Dahlonega, Eric and Brianna Wimpy, Dahlonega, Jason and Robin Lee, Saraland, AL, Alan and Andrea Lee, Dahlonega, Ashley and Toby Houston, Hayesville, NC, Hammond Adams, Asheville, NC, Lena Grace Adams, Asheville, NC, Kelly Weeks, Evans, GA, Walker Howle and Ann Yarbrough, Athens, GA, Caitlin Thomas, Asheville, NC, Ella Thomas, Asheville, NC, Porter Thomas, Asheville, NC., nineteen grandchildren, with the 20th on the way and six great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Dahlonega Baptist with Mr. John Yates , Mr. Jimmy Faulkner and family members presiding. Interment will follow in Bethlehem-Jones Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Dahlonega Funeral Home on Friday, January 27th from 2 until 4 and from 6 until 8 p.m.
