Journey N. Burton

Journey N. Burton, age 82, of Clarkesville, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2017, following an extended illness.

Mr. Burton was born on August 8, 1934, in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late Oscar Lee and Hester Mattie York Burton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Allen Burton; brothers: Hubert, Jim, Robert, and Jody Burton; sister, Judy Franklin Weaver; and granddaughter, Tina Marie Goss. Mr. Burton was a member of Amy’s Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He retired from the Schnadig Corporation.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Jean and Marty Frady and Dianne and George Peppers, both of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Steven and Jennifer Burton, Clarkesville; sisters, Mary Jane Franklin, Clarkesville and Winnie Dill, Toccoa; brother, David Burton, Clarkesville; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Bill Trotter, Rev. Danny O’Kelley, Rev. Mike Irvin, and Rev. Eddie Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the funeral home.
