Alene Ponder Pence, age 93 of Melbourne, Florida and Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017.
Born in Sidell, Kentucky on December 22, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Roy & Nancy Margaret Reid Ponder. Alene married Herschel Pence in 1944. They moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1950 where they co-owned Pence Septic Tank & Land Materials for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Pence started vacationing to the North Georgia Mountains in the early 1980s where they made Habersham County their second home. She was the co-owner of Pence Feed & Farm Supply for a number of years. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, & sister. Mrs. Pence was a member of the First Baptist Church of Melbourne and attended Stonepile Baptist Church in Clarkesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Herschel Pence, brothers: William Edward Ponder and Junior Ponder.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol & Bernie Johansen of Clarkesville, Georgia; son, Roy Pence of Melbourne Beach, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Foster & Betty Ann Ponder of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Brant & Lori Benoit of Demorest, GA; Carole Kay Pence of Clarkesville, GA; Brian Pence & fiancé, Shawna Hawkins of Indialantic, FL; great-grandchildren, Clara Alene Pence, Elle Pence, and Austin Fogle
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Melbourne, 3301 Dairy Road, Melbourne, FL 32904
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Interment will follow in the Fountainhead Memorial Park Cemetery in Palm Bay.
