Mrs. Rachel Franks Chappelear Stewart, age 78 of Toccoa passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Pruitt Health Toccoa.
A daughter of the late James B. and Vera Hamby Franks, she was born August 9, 1938 in Oconee County, South Carolina having lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was a 1958 graduate of Toccoa High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a Children’s Sunday School Teacher and Choir member. She was a member of Toccoa Junior Woman’s Club and a member of the Stephens County Hospital Auxiliary.
She moved to Toccoa at the age of 11 and was reared in the home of Iva Chappelear and the late H.M. Chappelear. Other survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Al Thomason and Lisa Stewart Gill both of Toccoa and Janet and Al Horn of Gray, Georgia; three grandchildren, Stewart and Stanley Thomason and Spencer Horn; close cousin, Donna Kay Chappelear Poole of Toccoa; father of the children, Joe Frank Stewart of Toccoa.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, January 24, 2017, 3 O’clock PM at Lavonia City Cemetery with The Reverend David Ritcey officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Al Thomason, Stewart Thomason, Stanley Thomason, Al Horn, Spencer Horn, David Gil and Fred Dilbeck.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 1 P.M. until time to leave for the graveside service at Lavonia City Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Rachel Stewart.
