Billy General Mealor, age 79 of Lula, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at his residence.
Born in Maysville, Georgia on April 28, 1937, he was a son of the late Evan and Pratt Burke Mealor. Mr. Mealor was a former member and deacon of Lula Baptist Church and currently a member of Maysville Baptist Church. He was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Mealor was a master saddle maker and leather worker. He was employed with Wofford Leather Company in Gainesville and later Rahide Saddle Shop in Demorest. After retiring he was the owner and operator of Mealor Saddle Shop in Lula. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch visiting with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceeded in death by his wife, Hilda Griffin Mealor; sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Hayward Sorrow, Sue Mealor, and Marylou Bishop.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jeff Griswell of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Eunice Mealor of Jefferson; sister and brother-in-law, Millie and Bobby Vaughn of Commerce; brother-in-law, Gerald Bishop of Hiawassee; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Bobby Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Lula.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-5 and 6-8 pm on Sunday.
