Betty Ann Nix

Betty Ann Smallwood Nix, age 70 of Clarkesville, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Habersham Medical Center.

Born in Roanoke, Alabama on April 11, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Handley Smallwood and Cora Lee Fowler Smallwood. Mrs. Nix retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. She loved animals, especially dogs. She also enjoyed time with her family and reading.  

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Junior Kirkland, James Smallwood, Johnny Smallwood, Bob Smallwood, Jenny Alred, and Sarah Grimes.

Surviving are loving husband of 55 years, Leon Nix of Clarkesville; daughters, Janelle Whitfield of Mt. Airy and Diane Nix of Toccoa; granddaughter, Krystian Whitfield; siblings, Charles Smallwood and Marie Willingham both of LaGrange, Mary Ann Williams of Clarkesville, Margaret Simmons of Baldwin, Peggy Ware of Tignal, and Leonard Knight of Alabama; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services are 11:00 am Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Kenneth McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Powell officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30-3:30 and 5:30-7:30 on Wednesday.
