David Steven Nevins, age 64, of Cumming passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017. David was a kind and gentle soul who loved his career of teaching. His calling was special education and he met every student with a smile and his unwavering support. Throughout the years, students would always remember their teacher, Mr. Nevins. A teacher never truly retires though; he always cared. He loved watching his students succeed and begin careers and families of their own. David was a wonderful husband and father. He loved his family and he loved his transition from Mr. Nevins to Gramps. He is now living out his favorite song…”Walking on Sunshine.”
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Joy Mullinax Nevins of Cumming; children, Jessica (Ryan) Haygood of Alpharetta, Josh (Christina) Pruitt of Advance, NC, Cody Nevins of Cumming; grandchildren, Jaden Bradley, Hannah Haygood, Sam Haygood, Abram Haygood, Ethan Pruitt, Hayden Pruitt; brother, Todd (Susan) Nevins of Stone Mountain; nephews, Jared (Nicole) Brooks, Justin (Kelly) Nevins and a number of other relatives.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Sawnee View Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
