Mr. Kenneth Alton Sanders, 72, passed away on December 20 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Ken was born in Miami, Florida, to Thomas Bradford Sanders and Louise Carpenter Sanders on August 29, 1944. He married Helen Damron Sanders of Toccoa on June 5, 1967 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Toccoa. He attended Miami-Dade Junior College, graduated from Piedmont College with Bachelors of Arts in History, and earned his Masters of Education from the University of Georgia.
His teaching and coaching career began at Dalton High School before moving to Toccoa Falls Academy then to Toccoa Falls College in 1976 where he served first as Dean of Students then Vice President for Student Affairs, Athletic Director, Member of Toccoa Falls Administrative Board, Men's and Women's Head Basketball Coach, Head Baseball Coach, Head Cross County Coach, and Head Golf Coach.
Ken received many awards and recognitions over his lifetime including induction into the NCCAA National Hall of Fame, NCCAA South Region Coach of the Year following regional championships, induction into the Piedmont College Hall of Fame, two-time Outstanding Young Men in America, the TFC President's Silver Medallion Award, and Thirty Years of Service Recognition and Outstanding Alumni Service Award from Toccoa Falls College.
Sanders was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Clarkesville where he taught an adult Sunday School class of over 50 members, was involved in the leadership of the local Community Bible Study chapter, and mentored students through Stephens County Schools.
In his retirement, he enjoyed participating in the operations of The Links of Toccoa golf course at the front desk greeting golfers and patrons and writing articles about the course and the game he loved for The Toccoa Record.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Damron Sanders, his daughters Christi Huskison of Waynesville, NC and Kendra Sanders of Toccoa, his brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Ruth Sanders of Lakeland, FL, sister-in-law Ruth Damron of Toccoa, niece Kathy Dobbins of Townville, SC, and grandsons Kennan and Carter Huskison of Waynesville, NC. Ken is preceded in death by his father Thomas Bradford Sanders, his mother, Louise Carpenter Sanders.

Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, December 27, 2016, 2 O’clock PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Clarkesville. Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Kenneth Alton Sanders.
