Firefighter Frank Martinez, Atlanta Fire Department, 45, of Cumming passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Frank was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend who has been battling cancer for the past two years. He was with the Atlanta Fire Department for the past 9 years, as well as the College Park Fire Department for 7 years. He was also with the Roswell and Forsyth County Fire Departments. Frank was Mr. May, 2003 in the Atlanta Firefighter’s calendar supporting the Georgia Burn Foundation. He also worked tirelessly supporting Georgia HB 216, a bill supporting firefighters with cancer. Frank’s world was devoted to his sons and to the brotherhood in the fire department.
Survivors include his wife, Blanca Cuello; children, Sebastian and Nicolas Martinez; mother, Paula Peterson; father, Bernd Peterson; brothers, Brian Peterson, Danny Martinez; niece, Morgan Martinez; nephew, Dorian Martinez; sister-in-law, Enid Martinez; and a number of other relatives.
The funeral mass will be Friday, December 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30305.
A Firefighter Toast will follow the mass at Smith’s Olde Bar, 1578 Piedmont Ave, NE, Atlanta, GA 30324.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Frank’s name to the Terry Farrell Firefighters’ Fund at terryfund.org.
