Andrew Robert Farkus, age 76 of Cornelia passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016. Mr. Farkus was born and raised in Highland Falls, NY where his father was a civilian employee at West Point. He served his country with honor in the United States Army serving with the 1st Battalion, 81st Missile Artillery in Fort Sill, Ok and in Mainz, Germany. Mr. Farkus was 50+ year member of Engine 6, Middletown Volunteer Fire Department and a 50+ member of the Middletown American Legion. After a long career in the grocery business he took a job with as a corrections officer for the State of Florida in Okeechobee, FL. Before relocating to North Georgia in 2003 he was head of security at Jupiter Medical Center. After relocating he became involved with the White County Food Pantry, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Outreach, as well as the St. Paul Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Farkus is preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother and sister-in-law, James and Andrea Busse Farkus, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen and Arlene Flannery Lewis, sister-in-law, Barbara Lewis Newkirk. He is survived by wife, Beverly Lewis Farkus, daughter, Anne Farkus Griffin (Dave), Son, Dan Farkus, grandson, David Griffin, sister, Joyce Farkus Hughes (Kurt) of Myrtle Beach, SC, brother-in-law, Charles Newkirk, Middletown, NY, maternal uncles, Bud McCann, Butch McCann, Bill Maxwell, and several nieces and nephews in Middletown and Texas, "brother" Tom Busse (Lynn), Middletown, and several cousins in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 6 until 8 PM. A mass will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10 AM with Father Fabio A. Alvarez Posada officiating.
