Patty Turner Funk

Obituary Date: Friday, December 16, 2016

Patty Turner Funk, age 85, of Clermont passed away Sunday, December 16, 2016 following a sudden illness.

Mrs. Funk was born April 5, 1931 in Clermont, Georgia to the late R.L. and Vancy Forrester Turner. She graduated from Clermont High School in 1948.  Her first priority was taking care of her family as a homemaker, but also worked for many years at Chadbourne-Gotham Manufacturing, then over twenty years at Harris Calorific, retiring in 2001.

Mrs. Funk had music in her blood and passed that on to her sons.  A member for over 65 years, she played piano at Concord Baptist Church in Clermont, assisting her father as he led.  She also worked with her father in service to Clermont as the town’s clerk for many years.  Mrs. Funk was also a talented seamstress, clothing her sons and many of her close friends in Clermont.

After meeting who would become the love of her life in 1950, she married Godfrey Funk on March 9, 1951. They raised four sons in the family home on Main Street in Clermont, and instilled in them a love of Jesus and the importance of reading His Word and serving in His Church.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Turner Harrison and brothers, Kirk Turner and Vandy Turner.

Mrs. Funk is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Wesley and Becky Funk of Flowery Branch, Mark and Janet Funk, Gary and Dr. Denise Funk, and Loren and Michelle Funk, all of Gainesville; Grandchildren, Brian and Suzanne Funk Aultman of Savannah, Rev. Matthew and Kirstin Funk of Covington, David and Sarah Funk Harvey of Gainesville, Laura Funk of Flowery Branch, Stephen and Kimberlee Funk of Smiths Station, Alabama, Daniel and Allison Funk of Gainesville, and Joseph Funk, Rachel Funk, David Funk, Zachary Funk, and Jacob Funk, all of Gainesville, and eight great-grandchildren; brothers Dal Turner of Stockbridge, and Bency Turner of Blue Ridge; and special friend Emogene Oliver of Clermont.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Morningside Assisted Living in Gainesville for their loving care of Mrs. Funk for the last 2 ½ years.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church, with internment following at the Concord Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 19, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Clermont.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of Concord Baptist Church, P.O. Box 190, Clermont, GA, 30527.
