Mr. Phares Junior Smith, age 89 of 2240 Anderson Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 7, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospice House, Watkinsville, Georgia.
A son of the late Phares O. and Gerothy Pitts Smith, he was born September 20, 1927 in Banks County, Georgia having lived most of his life in Decatur, Georgia and the last 20 years in Toccoa. He was employed with Coats and Clark for a number of years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Old Toccoa Baptist Church, Deacon of the Church and a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Japan during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Cleveland Smith in 2010 and by a brother, John D. Smith.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick and Susan Smith of Jefferson, Georgia and Vernard and Jeanette Smith of Hoschton, Georgia; four grandchildren, Steven Smith, Julie Horner, Christopher Smith and Wendy Holcomb; seven great-grandchildren, Evan Smith, Olivia Smith, Kage Horner, Madison Smith, Christopher Holcomb, Andrew Holcomb and Faith Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Devroe Standridge of Toccoa.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 10, 2016, 2 O’clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Roger Elrod officiating.

Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Phares Junior Smith.
