Richard Estes Burrell, 94 years old of Parkland, Florida and Clarkesville, Georgia, went to be with his heavenly Father on November 18, 2016.
He joined his Wife Virginia, son Scott and daughter Charlotte who went before him to prepare his eternal home. Richard was born on June 14, 1922 in Clarkesville Ga. The son of Cleveland Victor and Fannie Free Burrell Allen. He was the youngest of 2 brothers, Cortez and CV, and 1 sister Busee, who also went before him to Heaven. Growing up in Cornelia Georgia, Richard took pride in his school work and never made less than an A in School. He joined the Navy right out of high School and went to Northwestern University where he received a BA in Business. Once graduated he started his career with AT&T, where he worked for 39 years and retired. He met Virginia Ruth Florence at the first Baptist Church Atlanta. They married on October 18, 1947 and were married for 64 years. They were always an inspiration to the young couples in their Churches. They travel around the country with AT&T where they had 5 children in 5 different cities, Ricky, Vicky, Scotty, Lottie, Paul and that is all! In every city, their first thing they would do is join the local church. Serving as a Deacon and part time music leader in several Churches, Richard’s life work was sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Being a huge optimist he always was upbeat and the life of the party. This lead to many leadership positions in local civic groups such as Kiwanis, Pioneer group, and countless Churches.
He is survived by his Oldest Son Richard Jr., daughter, Victoria and youngest son Paul Burrell, 11 grand Children and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 12:00 PM from the Oakey Mountain Baptist Church. Rev. Brion Williams will officiate with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery.
