Bessie Jane Dryman Barnes, age 105, of Clayton, Georiga, passed away on December 2, 2016 at her home. She was born in Macon County NC the daughter of the late Ray Dryman and Mamie McConnell Dryman. She was also preceded in death by her husband Albert Eugene Barnes; three sons, Jim Barnes, Jack Barnes and Lewis Barnes; three daughters, Susan Hicks, Judy Ensley and Shirley Bolick; three son in laws, J.C. Hicks, Clyne Frady and Dick Lesley; and two daughters in law, Jayne Barnes and Carol Barnes.
She is survived by her son, Fred Barnes of Scaly Mountain, North Carolina; three daughters, Carol Frady, Diane Lesley and Jane English (Roy), of Clayton; three daughters in law, Belle Barnes, of Denver, NC, Laurel Barnes, of Scaly Mountain, NC and Patricia Belk, of Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by 26 Grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren, and 17 Great Great Grandchildren. She was the last living member of her immediate family.
Bessie enjoyed life, and would fill her time quilting quilts, crocheting Afghans for her family. She loved working in the garden and canning her famous strawberry jam. She worked at the Highland’s Cleaners and Laundry for 25 years, and would fill her weekend days attending church at the Highland Assembly of God, and cooking Sunday dinners for her family. She loved family and she leaves a lasting legacy behind.
The family will receive friends Sunday December 4th from 12 until 2 PM at Beck Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 2 PM in the Chapel with Rev. Adam Wright and Rev. Allan English. The burial will follow in the Scaly Mountain Methodist Cemetery in Scaly NC.
