Nelson Bradford Haller

Obituary Date: Friday, November 25, 2016

Mr. Nelson Bradford Haller, age 84 years, a resident of Gainesville, Ga, and formerly of Belington, WV, departed this life Friday November 25th 2016 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown following a sudden illness while in WV deer hunting. Death was unexpected.

He was born October 6th, 1932 at Belington, WV a son of the late George M. and Laura Triplett Haller. On April 28, 1983, he was united in marriage to the former Carolyn McCartney who survives in Gainesville, GA.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Michael Haller and companion Paula of Preston County, WV, Byron Sturm and wife Sandi, of Buford GA., Barry Brookshire and wife Gabriella of Denver, Colorado, two daughters, Vennessa Ross of Gainesville, GA, and Felisha Wilfong of Gainesville GA. Additional survivors include Eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a whole host of Friends in Georgia and West Virginia. In Addition to his parents Mr. Haller was preceded in death by one son Willard Dwane Haller, three brothers, Jack, Bert, and Emory Haller, one sister Ethel Junkins and his former wife the Lyndell Ann Fitzwater Haller. He was the last surviving member of his immediate Family.

Mr. Haller Graduated from the Belington High School with the class of 1951. He was retired from the United States Navy with the Rank of Chief Petty officer after 22years of service. At which time he and his family returned to Belington, WV where he had worked in numerous jobs in the area. They included Crown Furnishings in Belington, served in the Belington Police Department where he served as chief for many years. He worked for the Huttonsville Correctional Center in the K-9 Corp, and had worked with the US Marshall Service. In 1990 after moving to Georgia he served in the Gwinnet County Sheriff’s Dept. as a deputy. Following his service there he was lastly employed in Security services retiring from the EkG Security Company as a security Guard. Mr. Haller was a life time member of the Laurel Mountain Post #410 VFW in Belington where he was a former commander and quarter master. He was one of the founding members of Board of Directors for the Belington Medical Clinic, was a protestant by faith and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Thursday December 1, 2016 from 5-9pm and on Friday from 8am to 2pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the Stringtown Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion post #96 of Belington and the United States Navy.
