Charles Banister, age 84 of Cumming, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016. Charles was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War conflict. He retired from General Motors with 32 years of service, and later worked 18 years with Forsyth County at the Tolbert Street Transfer Station. He is preceded in death by his son, Steve Banister in 2009; sister, Wynett Banister Reid; brother, James Banister and parents, Jewell and Floy Banister.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Banister; daughter, Sherry and (Aaron) Phillips of Cumming; granddaughters, Meredith Phillips and Andrea Phillips both of Cumming; sisters, Ruth Murdock of Duluth, Hazel “Peggy” Tallant, Joyce and (Bud) Darnell of Cumming; sister in law, Shirley and (Charles) Burruss; special first cousin, Jack Banister of Woodstock and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Bridgeman and Rev. Tommy Weldy officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, from 11:00 am until hour of service.
