Thomas Elmer “Tom” Miller, age 94, of Dahlonega, GA passed away peacefully on the morning of November 14, 2016.
Tom was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was a member and Deacon (55 years) at Yahoola Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. He was retired from the U.S. Postal service where he was assistant postmaster in Dahlonega. He was also a world class farmer. Tom served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Tom was the son of the late Willie Miller and Rebecca Davis Miller and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Miller; brother, Henry C. Miller; sisters, Ella Lunsford and Mary Grizzle; and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his loving family: wife of 70 years, Jean; daughter, Vickie Simmons, Dahlonega, GA; son Robert “Bobby” Miller, Atlanta, GA; sister, Ola Bowen, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Scott Simmons, Clark and Alicia Simmons; great-grandchildren, Graham and Hayden Simmons, Victoria Simmons, Presley Simmons, Olivia Simmons, and Miller Simmons. Numerous other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Tom are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday November 17, 2016 at Yahoola Baptist Church.
Rev. Lyman Caldwell, Rev. Phillip Robinson, and Rev. Terry Head will officiate.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega, GA on Wednesday November 16, 2016 from 6 PM until 9 PM and again on Thursday from 10 AM until service time.
