Mr. James Donald (Don) Nix, age 75, of Gainesville passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. Reverend Phil Carpenter will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday November 13, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Nix was born on July 31, 1941 in Jackson County, Georgia to J. C. Nix and Corrie Crook Nix. He graduated from South Hall High School in 1959 and also graduated from Brenau University in 1987. He entered into the service with the U.S. Air Force in 1962 and served in Viet Nam. After his retirement from the U. S. Air Force he was employed with the Hall County Correctional Institution where he was a deputy warden and later became warden for the institute. He was a member of the police officers association and was a lifetime member of Chicopee Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
He is preceded in death by his father, J.C. Nix, mother, Corrie Crook Nix and sister, Janice Nix Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Ann Roberts Nix; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth D Nix (Tina Nix) of Flowery Branch; son and daughter-in-law, Randall J. Nix (Claudia Nix) of Gainesville; son, Jeffery W. Nix of Atlanta; grandsons Calvin Nix of Atlanta and Braxton Nix of Flowery Branch; granddaughter, Emily Nix of Gainesville; sister Jennie Vaughan (Bobby Vaughan) and several nieces and nephews.
