James A. (Jimmy) Henson Sr.

James A. “Jimmy” Henson Sr., age 87 of Gainesville, passed away on November 11, 2016 at his residence. A visitation will be held on Sunday November 13, 2016 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel, 989 Riverside Drive Gainesville, Georgia 30501. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 15, 2016 at 3:00pm at the ossuary of Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Jeff Thompson will officiate.

Jimmy was a native of Franklin County and has lived most of his life in Gainesville. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School and attended the University of Georgia, where he played football for Wally Butts. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He served as commander of the Paul E. Bolding post for the American Legion in Gainesville and was also a member of the Gainesville BOPE Elks Club. An active business man, Jimmy was involved in several businesses including: Black Book, Three D Cleaners, and the Biscuit Barn. He was a member of the Lakewood Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ponce de Leon Henson and Fannie Lou Arthur Henson, four sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Sarah Barrett Henson; son and daughter-in-law Jimbo and Linda Henson, son Mike Henson, and son Bob Henson, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
